Makerspace

The Urban Library Makerspace offers a place for Anaheim's creatives to practice their crafts. Flex your skills or learn something new! If you have questions, we have staff available who know how to use each piece of equipment. Please read all rules for scheduling and using the equipment.

The Space is available from 10:00 AM until Closing daily.

Equipment for Use

  • 1 Filament Bottle Recycler

Pricing

Pricing

Payment for materials is due at the end of your session. Cash, card, and recyclables accepted at the Help Desk (See Recyclables section below for details).

3D Printing

$0.10 per gram of the final product 

Sewing Machine

$0.50 per bobbin of thread

You must bring your own fabric,

but anything from the scrap pile is free!

Cricut Machine

$1.5 per sheet of vinyl

$0.50 per sheet of cardstock

$0.20 per foil transfer sheet

$0.50 per sheet of sticker paper

Laser Engraver

You must bring your own engraving materials,

but anything from the scrap pile is free!

Recyclables

You may offset or cover the cost of your materials for any piece of equipment by bringing in recyclables to turn into 3D Printer filament. Only clean PET (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) bottles will be accepted. We have GooGone and paper towels, but you've got to clean them!

Most bottles are worth $0.05 to $0.10 each.

Limit: 10 bottles per session.

Rules for Equipment Use

Rules

Our staff holds the right to bar a library patron from accessing equipment if they break any of the following rules or guidelines:

  1. The Makerspace is off-limits to library users under the age of 15 without an adult present. 
  2. Schedule a session in an open time to use the equipment. We cannot guarantee availability on a walk-in basis.
  3. You must be in good standing with the library -- no current fines, fees, or history of disruptive behavior in the library.
  4. If you have not used the equipment before, please schedule a demonstration with our staff before you begin.
  5. You must sign a waiver agreeing to use our equipment correctly. Incorrect use of the equipment leading to damages will result in a fine for the cost of the repairs and/or replacement.
  6. You may only use 1 piece of equipment at a time.
  7. You must pay for the materials used. See pricing below.
  8. No outside filament is allowed for the 3D Printer (this is to prolong its usability). Outside materials are allowed for the other equipment.
  9. You may not use equipment after hours. Equipment will turn off at the library's closing.
  10. All projects must follow community guidelines. Please seek project approval from staff if you are unsure.

Community Guidelines

  • You must own the intellectual property you are printing, or it must be in the public domain. See our selection of free 3D Printing Designs, Cricut Patterns, Engraving Patterns, and Sewing Patterns at the Help Desk Kiosk.
  • No sex- or drug-related paraphernalia.
  • No manufacturing guns or gun parts (Pretend weapons for gaming miniatures are ok).
  • No creating anything illegal.
